Engine Mounts

V8 Index

Mounting The Engine

I would recommend that you change to a 6 cylinder cross member if fitting to a 4 cylinder shell, you can use a 3.0L (either non or power steering) or as in my case as I did not want to build a car without power steering I installed a 2.8i cross member and power steering rack , this meant drilling and installing extra tubes in the chassis as the 2.8i and 3.0L bolts further forward and my shell was a 2.0L V4.
I decided to keep the cross member standard and make brackets to bolt the engine via Land Rover (Depth 37mm) mounts these are slight shorter than Ford ones (52mm) and very easy to obtain. I also think Ford would have done a similar way if they had fit a V8 to a Capri.

Designing The Brackets

We positioned the engine as low and as far back as possible without having to modify the bulkhead and with some simple measurements created a design in cad, we then transferred this Perspex and using a glue gun made some mock up brackets.
Eagle eyed will notice the aluminium sump, this is actually a Basil Green V8 sump used for Mk1 Ford Granada Perana but did not work out for us, due to the thickness and we used a pressed steel Fox Body Mustang sump in the end

Laser Cut and Welded

With the metal laser cut and welded together the engine was bolted in and adjusted up and down by inserting or removing washers between the mounts and the block.
