Which Door Mirrors

I only had one door mirror on the car which was a non-Ford part, so that had to be replace as it didn’t fit very well and I wanted to drill the holes before I had the car painted.
I know that rectangle mirrors give a better view but I think round mirrors are more suited to the Mk1 body shape, although I am not keen on bullet-style mirrors which can give even less vision.
I chose a longbase style mirror from a Ford Mustang 1964-66 which has a thicker mirror head. I also decided to purchase Scott Drake Show Quality Door Mirrors C3RZ-17696-R these aren’t the cheapest but the finish is very good.

Where To Drill The Holes

I decided to mount the mirrors quite far forward on the door as I thought this would give the best view.
Scott Drake provide instructions for where to drill the holes on a Mustang, so I modified the diagram, I drew two lines 20mm from the center to give a 40mm strip, this would position the mirror in the middle of the door curve and added 5mm on the front to line up with the bottom of the stainless trim. This covers the original holes without the new holes being anywhere near the old ones.

The new longbase mirrors covered the original holes in the door.
